| heating issues caused by the Spal fan of the Z1 Ultimate Cooling package. His suggestion was to run the Ford Taurus Sho fan (I think from the 93-96 3.8 liter, which it is a 2 speed fan). I researched on some other forums (mostly Mustang and 4x4 forums), and found that the Sho fan can cause some huge spikes if you run just a relay, so I found a couple of Variable Speed Fan controllers that can handle the continous draw from this monstrous fan. I had to run 10 gauge wire from the distribution block (I relocated my battery to the rear, and for convience, mounted a 2 fused distribution block up front) with a 100 amp circuit breaker, to a Flex a lite VSC (pn#33054) and finally to the power and grounds on the fan. The fan kicks on 10 degrees earlier at 60% and progress to 100% when the ceiling temp is hit (which keeps the amp draw around 45 amps at intial start up and 35 amps continously). Additionally it has a 6 second delay at start up and runs for 20 seconds at shut down. It is about 100 here today, which I drove around town (about 35 stoplights) with the ac blasting, and my temperature never saw above 190 (was running ConZults while I was driving around). Take this info as needed, but I have seen on other Nissan forums, people starting to ask about the Sho fan, so I thought I would share my experience. I have pictures of the install if interested.
